Make It Vegan: Sense and Sensibility

In the Make It Vegan series, we select the most inspiring fashion shows of the season—this time, it’s Chloé SS2025 at Paris Fashion Week—and take aesthetic inspiration to curate a selection of vegan items that fit the bill, both figuratively and literally.

No one can really say what the aesthetic expectations are for Chemena Kamali, who took on the role of head designer in 2023. As a fashion house, Chloé has seen a number of major designer personalities chip in over the past few decades – Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, and Clare Waight Keller, among others – which is both a blessing and a curse for any designer attempting to pick up where others left off while still making a mark of their own.

Spring–Summer 2025 is Kamali’s second collection as head designer, but her journey with Chloé began during Philo’s tenure and continued under Keller, where she served as Design Director. So yes, it was fair to expect Kamali to start on a high note – and she continues to deliver, expertly balancing ‘something old, something new’. References to Lagerfeld’s 70s lace bloomers, Philo’s flares, and McCartney’s flamingo serve as both an elegant tribute and a set of clues to what she chooses to carry forward. After all, who can resist a touch of cheekiness layered over a sense of nostalgic charm?

Something deeply sensual is unfolding at Chloé. Kamali’s SS25 heroine is as fresh as a morning meadow (summer doesn’t get any better than that), as high-spirited as a 90s teenage daydream, yet carries herself with a lightness and self-aware freedom (yes, it is a thing) that could only come from someone who has already mastered the art of finding grace in even the most unsettling of places. Needless to say, flow is definitely Kamali’s thing.
