Make It Vegan: Huff and Puff

Believe it or not, puffer jackets are definitely a thing and have taken over a significant number of Fall-Winter 24/25 shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. And while all jacket lengths seem to be equally runway-approved, this season sees a rather wide range of colours, from intense red and green to unexpected lilac and pastel rose shades.

Puffer clothing as a category is one of vegan fashion’s biggest concerns. The issue of animal exploitation for down feathers isn’t as widely discussed as the use of leather. Yet every year, around 3.4 billion ducks and geese are slaughtered for their feathers and down. Vegan fashion brands have been using synthetic down for years, but it is only recently that mainstream fashion started seeking out cruelty-free alternatives for reasons other than cost-effectiveness. Synthetic down has better insulating properties when both dry and wet, and is less likely to cause allergic reactions compared to natural down. It’s more durable, easier to maintain, and can be made entirely of recycled fiber without exploiting and causing harm to animals. With that in mind, let’s duck dive into the most exciting vegan puffer jackets of the season!
