VFR’s Vegan Fashion Directory Update: March 2025

At Vegan Fashion Repository, we continuously expand our Directory to showcase the latest innovations in vegan fashion.

This month’s update is a special edition focusing on fabrics and textiles. In preparation for the TEXTILE EXPO, a leading trade show in Japan dedicated to all types of textiles—including those used in the fashion and accessories industry—we have added 20 new sustainable and cruelty-free fabrics and textiles to our Directory.

In March 2025, we added the following fabrics and textiles (in alphabetical order):

Banana Cloth® is made from waste banana stalks that would otherwise be discarded and left for decay contaminating water and soil.

EVO® by FULGAR is a 100% bio-based polyamid yarn, made from inedible castor oil and industrial corn. Enhanced elasticity and strech, rapid drying, odor control, thermo isolation and bright colour dyeing at low temperatures.

The EVOdown® fiber is a “rolled free-fiber composite” and offers encapsulating layers to stabilize the free fibers within the garment. EVOdown® fibers are 100% recycled from PET bottles. OEKO-TEX®, bluesign® , GRS certified.

HAYASHI paper is made from 80% cellulose wood fibres, latex, and 100% cotton lining.

HyphaLite™ is a 100 % biobased, biodegradable* and compostable* material made from certified natural latex, FSC-certified regenerated cellulose fibers and contains mushrooms. HyphaLite™ meets the physical properties required by the footwear and accessories industry such as hand feel, softness, durability, breathability, and cost-efficiency.

Invisiloft® is an insulationd down made from 100% recycled post-consumer plastic bottles (PCR). OEKO-TEX®, bluesign® , GRS certified.

Jacron is a sustainable kraft paper material made from cellulose, water and some particles of natural rubber – giving a paper-like feel. Jacron looks similar to real leather, feels like real leather, but it’s 100% animal-free. It can be printed, embossed, debossed, and it’s available in metallic finishes of gold, silver or bronze.

Lignify® is the plant-based leather alternative made from lignin, a by-product of the paper industry. Cellulose-free (higher stability), UV absorption, water-solvent resistant.

Nutico is a plastic-free leather alternative from nutshell waste, fully biodegradable, and developed with a no-water process.

This leather alternative is made of upcycled grape marc from organic and bio-dynamic vineyards in the South of France in collaboration with ITECH School of Engineering in Lyon, France.

This innovative fabric is made of repurposed fishing nets from the Mediterranean sea, recycled with mechanical process that does not require the addition of virgin material.

SEACELL is a patented, eco-friendly fiber that adds a soft, silky feel in sports and leisure textiles – from underwear and loungewear to soft furnishings. Includes 19% of seawood, which contribute antioxidants and vitamins (non-washable additives*) to the fiber. 100% biodegradable. Can be used as a single fiber yarn or blended with other fibers. EU Ecolabel, TÜV Austria and TITK certified.

SECAO® is made from raw cacao husks sourced from cocoa farms in Pingtung, Taiwan.

SMARTCEL is a cellulose fiber enriched with a vital zinc oxide which has protective and nurturing effects on the skin for those with skin conditions such as eczema or neurodermatitis, to be blended with other fibers.

This innovative fabric is an alternative to felted wool, lightweight and breathable.

This plastic alternative is made from recycled polylaminate food boxes (paper, polyethylene and aluminum).

Thermore® Classic is made of very fine fibers which can trap an extremely high amount of air. Oeko-Tex certified raw materials, non-allergenic, highly breathable, non-toxic and free of PFOA and PFOS (perfluorooctanoic acid and sulfonate), non-organic and dangerous chemical substances both for humans and the environment. 75% recycled from PET bottles. OEKO-TEX®, bluesign® , GRS certified.

Thermore® Freedom is a stretch fabric made of 100% polyester, including 50% recycled from PET bottles. OEKO-TEX®, bluesign® , GRS certified.

WA.CLOTH® HYBRID fiber made from paper yarn with enhanced moisture and UV absoprtion, natural antibacterial and deodorising properties.

Wastea is a leather alternative made from the tea waste which is known as Class 4 waste, i.e. cannot be used for anything further on due to high caffeine level. The Bio-Content is between 45% and 95%, includes Bio-PU. DMF & TOL free.
