In the Make It Vegan series, we select the most inspiring fashion shows of the season, and we are kicking off the autumn–winter 25/26 season with Miu Miu Fall 2025. As usual, we take aesthetic inspiration to curate a selection of vegan items that fit the bill — both figuratively and literally.
Miu Miu Fall 2025
If one looks at what the most notable designers of a time period have in common — the ones who shape a period’s aesthetics and are later used as reference points for a decade or a particular style — it is their innate ability to inject their personality into each and every single look, no matter whether there are 20 or 60 looks in a collection, or 4 or 16 collections a year. This ability only sharpens with time, and after a while of watching their work, you begin to get a sense of who they are, even if the closest you’ve ever managed to get to them was just over a dozen metres away, with a few people across those few metres.
First of all, no one does the second tercio of the 20th century — the extended mid-century aesthetic — quite the way Miuccia Prada does. And there’s always a contemporary twist: be it sharper patterns, unexpected materials or bold colour blocks, which makes it relevant and attractive to 21st-century dwellers. Miuccia never loses touch with reality — she provides the means to cope with it. In the fall 2025 collection, femininity in a time of war, fear and anxiety, on top of everyday worries, is the keynote — or rather, the anchor — around which the looks unfold.
In a rather with a wink reference to her early 1990s shows, knee-length slips and 1950s lookalike conical bullet bras made an expected–unexpected appearance beneath what might otherwise be described as tailored pieces for a respectable lady. But the underwear pop-up show is not the only element that went askew: odd zips, skewed collar lapels, even falling shoulders and straps read more like a deliberately unintended declaration than ensembles gone wild.
There are also faux-fur stoles, which look alarmingly like real fur (as dictated by trends across the fashion weeks earlier this year); knee socks in various colours that together resemble the display of a passementerie shop; and a handful of classics — lingerie dresses, tailored coats and suits, polo tops and plain sweaters. And yes, of course, brooches.
Inclusivity is also a keynote. Miu Miu’s shows have long been known for engaging models outside of standard sizing — height included — but Prada’s take on diversity and inclusivity is as her aesthetic is: subtle, clever, if not philosophical, yet it feels natural — perhaps precisely because of this subtlety. She does not ‘take on’ inclusivity; she simply embodies it, because that is the way she sees the world — and thus, operates. For those who truly care, this is as effortlessly felt and seen as it is natural. And that’s how it should feel: away from loud, temporary slogans.
Faces of Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, Xiao Wen Ju, Lou Doillon, Sarah Paulson, Elliot Sumner and, of course, Gigi Hadid, also added a sense of familiarity — and, let’s call it out, authority — to follow what feels like a movement. If there’s one word to describe the collection, it would be emancipation. Not in the ballot-box sense, but rather the freedom and bravery to embrace — and go public with — all that it takes to survive, warts and all, while still retaining a sharp sense of humour.
While we wait for the day when all of Miu Miu’s pieces are vegan-friendly, we have curated a selection in similar aesthetic from our trusted vegan fashion brands. You’re all welcome.
