Make It Vegan: Ah, the Cherry Blossoms!

In the Make It Vegan series, we select the most inspiring fashion shows of the season—this time, it’s Dior Pre-Fall 2025 from Kyoto—and take aesthetic inspiration to curate a selection of vegan items that fit the bill, both figuratively and literally.

Dior Pre-Fall 2025

Japanophile or not, few can resist the sublime charm of cherry blossoms in April in Kyoto. Nor could Maria Grazia Chiuri, who embarked on quite a geo-cultural tour that included shows and exhibitions in Seoul, Mumbai, Rome, and even Scotland’s gem – Perthshire – before her departure.

Chiuri’s take on Japan draws on the House’s historic connections, and she utilised textiles from the Tatsumura Textile Atelier – a jewel in both Kyoto’s and Japan’s fabric landscape, renowned for its restoration of antique textiles, just as Christian Dior did in the 1950s. But the collection’s contemporary feminine – and utterly practical – edits referenced traditional Japanese cuts and silhouettes while incorporating denim and gabardine in jackets, coats, and trousers. These pieces could easily stand alone in any ready-to-wear collection, yet somehow merged seamlessly into this one, alongside intricate floral shimmering appliqués, landscapes made with the traditional steam-dyed method called hikizome by the Fukuda workshop in Kyoto, and Yūzen prints on silks by Tabata Kihachi – the same atelier that continues to dye kimono fabrics using the Yūzen resist dyeing technique with rice paste, a method in use since the 17th century.

This, combined with the location – the historic Tō-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site etched into history since the 8th century, with cherry blossoms at their peak (after all, April is the month to visit Japan) – is what makes luxury so appealing to the masses: the sense of capturing history’s finest moments in a fast-paced life oriented towards the future.

And while it may still be some time before luxury brands fully embrace vegan alternatives (we’re confident it will happen eventually), we’ve curated a selection of pieces made from vegan silk, leather alternatives, ethical and certified cotton, and other innovative materials from our trusted vegan brands.

You’re all welcome.
